Please click the photo for more information ...................... I have been the IT Manager at St. Petersburg Christian School since July 2012. Since then we have added a new building, deployed campus-wide WiFi, implemented an online helpdesk ticket system, and rebuilt the entire Windows domain on Vmware virtualization technology. All of this was done while increasing productivity and efficiency, and cutting costs. Each year we have been able to finish with a surplus in the budget.
Budget Surplus? Yes!
Each year since 2012, our IT department has spent it's money wisely. We have had surpluses of over 20% of the budget saved! Being a not-for-profit organization, every dollar counts, and I do everything I can to treat company money like my own. We will look for coupon codes, ask for discounts for volume orders, and even look to renegotiate existing contracts we keep in good standing. We even renegotiated a 3 year contract, saving almost $40,000 for the remainder of the contract!
The growing school network had outgrown the existing firewall, and we needed something that was capable of handling, and securing, a large network. We selected and configured a firewall that could handle a large growth of devices in the next several years, and that was capable of blocking all threats, internal and external. This firewall even met compliance for CIPA internet protection for schools, ensuring our students would be protected.
The school's infrastructure was unstable and unreliable. Too much was depending on too little. We had one server being relied upon for everything. We were able to split all of the load from one physical server to 9 virtual servers, all handling one specific part of the necessary duties. After this was complete, it was on to rebuilding and configuring the Windows Active Directory domain.
We replaced our old servers with 2 new virtual Server 2012 domain controllers, and added 7 more servers to help handle the load of all necessary tasks. Services like printing, file servers, applications, and network services like DNS and DHCP were all assigned a dedicated server. We also rebuilt Active Directory with 100 employees, 450 students and over 250 computers. Each account is set with specific security policies, granting access to those who need it, and locking down those who don't.
